About the RBUSD AI Guidelines


In Spring 2025, Redondo’s Education with AI Leadership Team (REAL Team)—a group of educators, staff, parents, and students—came together to explore how artificial intelligence should be used in our schools. Over four meetings, the team defined what AI is, reviewed district policies, considered opportunities and risks, and drafted student-centered guidelines for responsible AI use.

 

These RBUSD AI Guidelines are the result of that collaborative process. They are designed to help teachers, students, and families understand how AI can support learning while ensuring its use remains ethical, safe, and aligned with our district’s values.

REAL Team: Shaping AI Integration in RBUSD

As AI rapidly transforms education, Redondo’s Education with AI Leadership Team (REAL Team) came together this spring to guide how our district approaches this new technology. The REAL Team was a diverse group of educators, staff, parents, and students who worked side by side to ensure AI is used in RBUSD schools in ways that are responsible, effective, and aligned with our community’s values.

What We Accomplished

✅ Drafted RBUSD-specific AI guidelines to support responsible classroom use.
✅ Reviewed district policies to align with AI best practices and academic honesty expectations.
✅ Identified opportunities and challenges of AI in teaching and learning.
✅ Shared resources and raised awareness about AI’s role in education.

The Process We Followed

Over four meetings, the REAL Team followed a structured process to build shared understanding and shape guidance for RBUSD:

  • March 18, 2025 – Kickoff: Defined what AI is, discussed examples of use, and established a shared vision. Meeting 1 Slides

  • April 15, 2025 – Policies: Reviewed district policies and survey data on responsible AI use. Meeting 2 Slides

  • May 6, 2025 – Guidelines: Drafted ethical AI guidelines and identified instructional priorities. Meeting 3 Slides

  • June 3, 2025 – Final Steps: Refined guidelines and discussed training, communication, and future goals. Meeting 4 Slides

Throughout this journey, members used surveys, collaborative activities, and community feedback to ensure the work reflected the perspectives of students, families, and staff. 

 

Why It Matters

By completing this process, the REAL Team has laid the foundation for a thoughtful, student-centered approach to AI. These guidelines will support teachers in making classroom decisions, help families understand how AI fits into learning, and ensure RBUSD is leading with responsibility, safety, and equity at the forefront.
