5th Grade Music Program

Due to COVID-19 we are not offering band and chorus for grade 5.  RBEF is funding a K-5 music education program where we will be pushing out virtual lessons.  Our website has band and chorus and needs to be updated when you can.  Parents are already unhappy that we don’t have band and chorus.  I’d like to communicate our alternative plan.

During COVID-19, we are committed to ensuring a quality instructional program and prioritizing student safety. RBUSD will be modifying our 5th grade band/chorus to a K-5 music education program. This will include virtually lessons that are shared every week with our elementary schools.  The virtual lessons will lay the foundation for our elementary students in music appreciation so that when they enter the secondary level, they can benefit from our band programs.  Our pledge to supporting a sequential music curriculum through a child’s K-12 educational experience will develop students with both an interest in, and knowledge of, music education.

Elementary music with Mr. Hughes starts Wednesday, September 9th!

All students grades K-5 will have access pre-recorded weekly music lessons that can be easily accessed at this district-hosted webpage starting September 9th:

  • Students and families will find a simple interface that works on both Chromebooks and iPads
  • Weekly grade-level lessons will cover a range of musical concepts, skills, and activities that allow students to work at their own pace
  • 5th grade lessons will be tailored to help students prepare for middle school band and choral electives
