Integrated Pest Management
The California Healthy Schools Act (HSA) is a right-to-know law that ensures parents and staff are informed about pesticide use at public schools. The law encourages schools to adopt effective, lower-risk pest management practices known as Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The goals of the HSA are to address health and environmental concerns related to pesticide use on school campuses and to help ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for California’s students.
The Redondo Beach Unified School District (RBUSD) recognizes that maintaining a safe and healthy environment for students and staff is essential to learning. The District’s goal is to provide effective pest control while protecting students, staff, the environment, and District facilities and assets.
To achieve this goal, RBUSD implements an IPM approach that emphasizes long-term pest prevention. Non-chemical methods are considered first when selecting appropriate pest control measures. When additional control is necessary, the District evaluates the full range of available options, prioritizing methods and products that pose the least risk to people and the environment.
