California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

In Spring 2015, 2016, & 2017, students in Grades 3-8 and 11 completed the online assessments known as the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) exams in mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA). There are two ELA sections and two math sections on the Summative Assessment.  If your child was in Grade 5, 8, or 10 during the 2016-17 school year, they also took the pilot of the California Science Test.

These assessments in mathematics and English Language Arts cannot be related to previous California State content exams as the Summative is centered on college readiness exams.  The 2015 Summative scores represent a data baseline or starting point to understand future individual student academic progress.  On the 2016-17 score reports, you will see your child's scores for this year as well as the past two years.  Please note there are no scores for the California Science Test since this year was only a pilot test.  The state has a created a website to access the Smarter Balanced Test Results for California for 2015, 2016, & 2017.

These assessments include a computer adaptive exam to better understand individual student proficiencies in mathematics and ELA.  To learn more about computer adaptive exams, please access the following: Computer Adaptive Testing.

The California Department of Education has created a website and one-page summaries for parents to use to better understand their child's score reports and what these scores mean.

RBUSD: Use of Technology

In the 2014-15 school year, using Measure Q dollars, the RBUSD implemented a one-to-one Chromebook model.  A Chromebook was issued to every student in grades 3 - 12.  Having technology in the hands of every student simplified the logistics of the SBAC testing process.  Teachers and students used the Chromebooks in their classrooms all year.  During SBAC testing students were comfortable using their keyboards to navigate the test, and were able to focus on content.

California Healthy Kids Survey

Students in grades 5, 7, 9, and 11 are being asked to be a part of our school’s California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), sponsored by the California Department of Education. This is a very important survey that will help promote better health and well-being among our youth, improve the school learning environment, and combat problems such as drug abuse and violence. Your child does not have to take the survey. Participation is voluntary.  The survey gathers information on developmental supports provided to youth; school connectedness and barriers to learning; school safety; and health-related concerns such as physical activity and nutritional habits; alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; and risk of depression and suicide.

If you would like to view the survey, please click on the appropriate link.  Please note that students in grades 7, 9, & 11 will complete two surveys:

Grade 5:  Elementary CHKS 16-17

Grade 7:  Middle School CHKS 16-17

Grade 9 & 11:  High School CHKS 16-17

Grades 7, 9, & 11:  Secondary CHKS School Climate 16-17
